Army Strong Challenge Competition
“Army Strong“ is having immense physical, mental and emotional strength. The Army Strong Challenge Competition will test the physical and mental strength of both high school and college/post-secondary students.
1. Take ASVAB (Must Contact Local Recruiting office to set this up)
2. Cover Letter with results attached
Place: DoubleTree by Hilton Bloomington Mpls South
Date: Friday, April 5, 2013 & Saturday, April 6, 2013
Times will be assigned to each competitor prior to the contest and upon check-in at Registration Table.
CLOTHING REQUIREMENT: Army Physical Fitness Testing (Physical Challenge)
For men: Grey or dark colored T-shirt, dark colored gym shorts of appropriate length or sweat pants and
For women: Grey or dark colored T-shirt, dark colored gym shorts of appropriate length or sweat pants and
CLOTHING REQUIREMENT: Oral Board (Leadership Challenge)
For men: Official red blazer, windbreaker-style jacket or sweater; black dress slacks; white dress shirt; plain black tie with no pattern or SkillsUSA black tie; black socks and black shoes.
For women: Official red blazer, windbreaker style jacket or sweater; black dress slacks or skirt with businesslike white, collarless blouse or white blouse with small, plain collar that may not extend onto the lapels of the blazer; black sheer or skin-tone hose and black shoes.
Open to active SkillsUSA members.
EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS
1. Supplied by the technical committee:
a. Timekeeper and judges
b. All necessary information for the judges and technical committee
c. the location of the modified physical fitness test will be at a local area around the state delegation hotel
d. the board will consist of three Army personnel responsible for one of the above areas and asking
questions related to each topic area and a SkillsUSA Board Personnel.
e. each student contestant will be asked the same set of questions from each board.
2. Supplied by the contestant:
a. All competitors must create a one-page résumé & write a Cover Letter on why they want to enter the Army Strong Challenge Competition. They must contact the local Army Recruiting Center to schedule the ASVAB test and attach the results with their cover letter and submit to the judge when arriving to contest area
b. Pen and/or pencil for written portion of challenge
SCOPE OF THE CONTEST
The contest consists of two parts:
1. Evaluation of physical challenge
2. Mental and Oral presentation and questions and answers session. All contestants will be asked the same questions, which judges will determine before the start of the contest.
ARMY PHYSICAL FITNESS TESTING- PHYSICAL/ SKILL PERFORMANCE
The challenge will consist of a modified Army physical fitness test, which will consists of pushups, sit-ups, and run.
Leadership Challenge will be an oral board that will consist of 3 areas:
1. Leadership (Army Values, Leadership, and History)
2. General Military Skills (Rank structure, Phonetic alphabet, military time, map reading)
3. Career Exploration (Discussing results of the ASVAB and how Skills USA can help students prepare for future careers.
