SkillsUSA Minnesota State Conference Information

divider

Happy 2017!  As the New Year gets into full swing, I wanted to write and say how much I appreciate all you do for your students in SkillsUSA.   In just 2 months we will gather to celebrate a milestone here in Minnesota, our 50th Anniversary for SkillsUSA and Career and Technical Education. Along with this milestone, we also will welcome in our National SkillsUSA Executive Director, Mr. Timothy Lawrence from Leesburg, Virginia who will be in town to help us celebrate five decades of champions.

In this MSC packet I want to provide you with a few pieces of information that I hope will be helpful to you as you prepare your students for The 50th Annual Minnesota SkillsUSA Championships Conference to be held on Friday, March 31st, Saturday, April 1st and Sunday, April 2nd, 2017.  The conference will be housed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Bloomington Mpls. South, 7800 Normandale Boulevard, Bloomington, MN 55435, and (952) 835-7800.   Skill Contests will be held across the metro area.  Buses will be available to transport students to and from most events.

Download a .PDF of this information here.

You and your students can participate in the Statewide Community Service Project during the State Conference!  Come and help make 2,000 sandwiches on Friday evening, March 31st.
SkillsUSA will prepare and donate sandwiches to the 363 Days Food Program that distributes more than 600,000 sandwiches to the homeless and hungry each year. Sandwiches are prepared and donated by more than 500 community groups, churches, schools, and companies. In total, more than 10,000 individual volunteers participated in sandwich making events, ranging in age from 7 to 87 years old! Currently, Mr. Allan Law distributes an average of 1600 sandwiches a night to Twin Cities partner shelters and locations serving the homeless.   Making several stops each night, Mr. Law also provides sandwiches and bottled water to homeless individuals and families living on the street, or totally outdoors.

There are some “NEW” format changes for this year’s conference packet.  Please remember to submit your SkillsUSA Membership onto the National Website first.   This is also the same website where you will complete the Online Registration Process and sign up to attend and compete at the State Championships.

  • ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE REGISTER MEMBERS BEFORE YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO REGISTER THEM FOR CONFERENCE PARTICIPATION.
  • Registration will be on-line at www.skillsusa-register.org/Login.aspx
  • Please look for the “NEW” document and follow the instructions carefully. You will also notice that there is a “NEW” Contest Grid Chart for all (88) contests. The Grid Chart provides you with an overview of the number of contestants/contest, whether it is a team or individual contest, contest codes, notebook requirements, etc.
  • All forms will be located on the website at: http://www.mnskillsusa.org/ after January 30th, 2017.

I hope that you find the improvements easy to use and navigate.
